5 Questions – Gina Alvarez

128px-feed-icon-svgWelcome listeners to 5 Questions: A Critical Mass for the Visual Arts Podcast in which we ask 5 questions of our interviewees aimed at positioning and contextualizing their respective bodies of work within the St. Louis artworld.This episode, we’re talking with Gina Alvarez!

Gina is a multi-disciplinary artist and wisconsin native who received her BA from the College of Charleston SC in  printmaking and costume design. In 2000, she moved to  St. Louis to pursue her MFA at Washington University in printmaking and drawing. Gina creates sculptural objects and installations using ceramics, glass, fiber and print techniques, and has shown in solo and group exhibitions including the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Gallery 210, Boots Contemporary Art, the Center for Creative Arts, Craft Alliance, the Des Lee Gallery, Pele Prints and fort gondo.

Gina is a graduate of RAC’s CAT institute, and  has received numerous recognition from both local and national organizations including Critical Mass for the Visual Arts among others. She has been working in the academic and non-profit sector in St. Louis for over ten years, leading Washington University students in their semester abroad travels and teaching printmaking at several colleges and universities around St. Louis. She has also managed and booked exhibitions for several venues including Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts. Most recently Gina was the gallery and education director for the St. Louis Artists’ Guild and Galleries. She is currently the Executive Director for VSA Missouri, the statewide organization on Arts and Disability that provides opportunities for artists with disabilities to pursue their passion for art making.
