Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts (VLAA), All the Art, & Critical Mass for the Visual Arts Present:
Fire Safety for Artists
Thursday May 11, 2017
7:00 PM at Regional Arts Council
6128 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63112
On December 2, 2016, a fire erupted from an artist collective space in West Oakland, CA-better known as Ghost Ship. 36 people died in the fire, which was one of the largest in the city’s history. The description of Ghost Ship before the fire is reminiscent of many of our local spaces, studios, and environs in which artists live and work. For organizers, creatives, and art-professionals, it is clear that we all need to understand how to protect ourselves from such tragedy. Join VLAA, All the Art, and Critical Mass for the Visual Arts in our Fire Safety for Artists workshop. This event includes:
- Learn about (CERF+) with Felicia Shaw, Executive Director of The Regional Arts Commission
- Get common sense workplace safety tips from architects Tom Peterson & Susan Pruchnicki
- Learn how to navigate “city hall” with Architect Dustin Bopp
- Get the performance art perspective from Alan Cina, Gateway Burners
- Discuss local safety-related needs and how they can be addressed
- Learn how to use a fire extinguisher + an equipment giveaway
- Enjoy a cold beer during the reception that will follow the program
